ICC/ESOMAR International Code of Marketing and social research

The first code of marketing and social research practice, the ESOMAR (European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research) was published in 1948. This was followed by many other codes prepared by national organizations and the ICC (International Chamber of Commerce). In 1976 ESOMAR and the ICC decided it would be more desirable to have a single International Code instead of two different. A single ICC / ESOMAR Code was published the following year (1977). The Code was subsequently revised and updated in 1986 and 1994.
